RISE: THE PROMISE OF MY BROTHER’S KEEPER

“As an African-American woman I’m very interested in social justice and truth, so it was important to me to let people tell their own stories and put them on center stage.”

RISE: The Promise of My Brother’s Keeper explores the lives and families of boys and young men of color and all youth from across the country that participate in life changing intervention programs. The film highlights four programs that exemplify the principles of President Obama's My Brother's Keeper initiative to improve the life outcomes of boys and young men of color. The film also addresses President Obama's challenge to cities and towns to encourage coherent cradle-to-college-and-career strategies for improving the life outcomes of all young people, regardless of who they are, where they come from, or the circumstances into which they were born.

As part of Discovery's commitment to build awareness and drive discussion of this important issue on a local level, Discovery Education, in coordination with the launch of RISE: The Promise of My Borther’s Keeper, hosted town halls and screenings of the film in Chicago and Philadelphia in partnership with minority non-profits to discuss intervention programs and ways that communities can get involved.

Trilogy Film’s Dawn Porter directed and produced the film for Discovery Studios for Discovery Channel, with executive producer John Hoffman, supervising producer Alexandra Moss and fellow prodcuer James Barrat.

RISE: The Promise of My Brother’s Keeper simulcast on Discovery Channel and OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network Father's Day in 2015.
